Great Days of Service returns to DeSoto for fourth year

Those yellow Great Days of Service shirts will return to DeSoto from June 18-21 with volunteers from eight DeSoto churches turning out to exercise their faith and help neighbors in the city. This year, Great Days of Service started with a fun run/walk fundraiser on May 3 at DeSoto Town Center.

Great Days of Service is now a 12-year old event in North Texas, and volunteers from the communities and partner churches have worked side by side to help their neighbors. Churches, municipalities, businesses, and individuals provide funding for Great Days of Service.

These eight partner churches in DeSoto will launch Great Days of Service 2008 with a prayer breakfast on June 18. The churches are:

Church of the Disciple (United Methodist)

Community Missionary Baptist Church

Crossroads Covenant Church

Dallas First Church of the Nazarene

DeSoto Presbyterian Church

First Christian Church of DeSoto (Disciples of Christ)

First United Methodist Church of DeSoto

Hampton Road Baptist Church

Great Days of Service volunteers again worked on six projects--all in the city limits of DeSoto--including home improvement, cleaning yards, visiting nursing homes, a food drive, sewing projects and serving a meal to DeSoto's public servants and elected officials.
